Hypnotherapy is a completely natural state of mind, which people often describe as very relaxing and calming. Contrary to popular belief it is not a state of deep sleep, but rather of enhanced awareness. This means, you are fully aware and in full control at all times. Think of how it feels when you are daydreaming, which is something every human being does naturally, or when reading a good book and being totally absorbed and focused.
Today, it is generally agreed that hypnosis is ultimately self-hypnosis, this means a hypnotherapist will help you to relax and ‘hypnotise yourself’. When in a hypnotic trance, nobody can make you do things you do not want to do – a hypnotherapist will guide you though certain processes (e.g., visualising positive, new behaviours) when you are in this relaxed state and will give you positive suggestions which will support you in making changes in yourself.
